HOGAN, JOSIAH -- Came to Texas in 1834, as is shown in the Spanish Archives in the General Land Office. On December 20, 1834, he received title to a league of land in Robertson's Colony situated near the town of Viesca, the site of which is near the falls of the Brazos in the present county of Falls. The Deed Records of Falls County show that he was living at Viesca May 25, 1835, when he sold the land to Sterling A. Robertson. He was a member of Captain William J. E. Heard's Company of Citizen Soldiers at San Jacinto. He assigned his rights to the land due him for his other services in the army to W. W. Thompson and on November 7, 1845, Bounty Certificate No 10020 for 640 acres of land was issued in Mr. Hogan's name due him for having served in the army from February 1 to August 1, 1836 but the certificate was delivered to Mr. Thompson.
