HOBSON, JOHN -- Arrived in Texas in 1835, as is stated in the Headright Certificate issued to his heirs June 13, 1838 for one-third of a league of land by the Milam County Board. He was a member of Captain Jesse Billingsley's Company at San Jacinto and on May 30, 1838, his heirs received Donation Certificate No. 258 for the 640 acres of land due him for having participated in the battle. On February 7, 1860, the heirs received Bounty Certificate No. 259 for 320 acres of land for his services in the army from April 8 to July 8, 1836. They received Bounty Certificate No. 2861 for 1280 acres of land April 12, 1838, due him for having served in the army from October 18, 1836, to October 18, 1837.

Mr. Hobson was killed by Indians November 10, 1837, in what is now Wise County, while serving under Lieutenant A. B. Benthusons. Daniel Monroe was appointed administrator of his estate in Milam County June 13, 1838.
