HECK, CHARLES F. -- Arrived at Velasco, December 20, 1835 as a member of the Georgia Battalion. The name C. F. Heck appears on the roll of Captain Isaac Ticknor's Company, page 9, Land Office army rolls, following which is the notation: "Lost on Ward's retreat." On the rolls of Fannin's command, Vol. 1, page 488, Lamar Papers Chas Hec is shown as unattached to any company. On page 486 C. F. Hick appears as a member of Captain Ticknor's Company who was among those who escaped from Colonel Ward's Division and was not captured by the enemy. On page 37 of the Land Office rolls the name is listed as Charles Hicks. There seems to be but little doubt, if any, that Charles Hec, Charles Heck and C. F. Hicks are one and the same person. The rolls printed in the Lamar Papers were intended to be a true copy of those printed in the Telegraph and Texas Register, November 9, 1836.

The name Charles Hick is shown on page 16 of the San Jacinto rolls printed in 1836, as a member of Captain William H. Patton's Company.
No one by the name of either C. F. Heck, C. F. Hick, C. F. Hee, Charles Hee, Charles Hec, Charles F. Hicks, or Charles Frederick Hicks applied for headright, bounty or Donation Certificates for the land, if any, due him.
Colonel Jesse Benton, Jr., who was in command of Captain Patton's Company when it was disbanded, made an affidavit June 2l, 1856 that Charles F. Heck was a member of Captain Patton's Company.
HECK, CHARLES F. -- The compiler is responsible for having the name of Charles F. Hicks inscribed on the bronze plaque in the San Jacinto memorial monument on which is inscribed the names of the Texans who participated in the battle of San Jacinto. He now (March 24, 1941) believes the name should be Charles F. Heck.
