HARMON, JOHN A. -- Born in Tennessee. In the Headright Certificate issued to him March 5, 1838 for a league and labor of land by the Jefferson County Board he stated that he came to Texas in 1835. He was a member of Captain William Kimbro's Company and on February 2, 1846 was issued Donation Certificate No. 1232 for having participated in the battle of San Jacinto. Mr. Harmon was living in Jefferson County in 1841. He was living in Saint Clair County, Illinois, January 17, 1885 when he was issued Veterans Donation Certificate No. 1132 for 1280 acres of land. This he sold January 24, 1885 to Thomas J. Harmon for $600.00. He could not write but affixed his mark to the deed of transfer.
