BARKER, GEORGE -- Came to Texas in 1834, as is stated in the Headright Certificate issued to him in 1838 by the Harrisburg County Board of Land Commissioners. He was a member of Captain Thomas H. McIntire’s Company at San Jacinto. He later joined Captain Peter B. Dexter’s Company which was organized on the battlefield a few days after the conflict. On February 10, 1838 he received Bounty Certificate No. 2329 for 640 acres of land for having served in the army from March 1 to September 1, 1836.

Mr. Barker probably left Texas shortly after receiving his discharge from the army. This is indicated by the fact that he did not apply for the Donation Certificate for 640 acres of land due him for having participated in the battle. Donation certificate were at that time not transferable.
