GRIFFIN, WILLIAM -- Arrived in Texas sometime between May 2, 1835 and March 2, 1836. In the Headright Certificate issued to him January 28, 1836 for one-third of a league of land by the Board of Land Commissioners for Brazoria County it is stated that he came to Texas before March 2, 1836. In Comptroller's Military Service Record No. 4451 it is certified that he served in the army from February 22, 1836 to October 25, 1837. He was a member of Captain William Wood's Company at San Jacinto and when discharged was a corporal in Captain David T. Pyron's Company "C" 1st Regiment of Permanent Volunteers.

Mr. Griffin was issued Bounty Certificate No. 2552 for 1280 acres of land March 5, 1838 for having served in the army from February 22, 1836 to October 25, 1837. The fact that he did not apply for a Donation Certificate, which was nontransferable, for 640 acres of land for having fought at San Jacinto, indicates, at least, that he left Texas shortly after being discharged from the army.
On the army rolls in the General Land Office is shown him having been born in 1812. He is described as being 5 feet, 3 inches high, of fair complexion, with blue eyes and brown hair. By vocation he was a farmer.
