GRIEVES, DAVID -- Born in Scotland. In Service Record No. 1717 it is certified that Mr. Grieves enlisted in Company I, Regiment of Regular Infantry, February 20, 1836. When discharged May 31, 1837 he was 2nd Lieutenant and assistant commissary. His pay was $25.00 per month.

Mr. Grieves was a member or Captain Henry Teal's Company at San Jacinto. On Captain Teal's roll at the Land Office, page 137, he is shown as having been appointed Quartermaster Sergeant May 9, 1836. The following notice of Mr. Grieves death was contained in the Telegram and Texas Register of Houston, June 20, 1837: "Died at Houston on Friday the 15th instant Lieutenant David Grieves of the Texas army, a native of Scotland. The editors of Rhode Island and New Orleans will please notice the above."
The Probate Records of Harris County, Book C, page 1, show that Abraham Gosney was appointed administrator of Mr. Grieves estate July 23, 1838. Mr. Gosney claimed that Mr. Grieves owed him $800.00.
