GRICE, JAMES B.-- Arrived at Velasco, December 20, 1835, as a member of Captain James C. Winn's Company of Georgia Riflemen. He was issued Donation Certificate (issued to L.B. Grice) No. 7488 for 640 acres of land for having served in the army from December 23, 1835 to June 4, 1836. This he sold in Austin March 19, 1840 to Michael Boren for $75.00. He served in Captain William H. Patton's Company from April 10 to April 26, 1836.

The following information concerning Mr. Grice is contained in Comptroller's Military Service Record No. 460: Captain Patton at the battlefield April 26, 1836 wrote: "This is to certify that J.B. Grice has served in the Texas army from the 18th inst. to date below (April 26), that he was in the battle of San Jacinto on the 21st inst. and there as well as at all other times performed his duty faithfully and honourable."
Ruchard Bache, chief clerk of the War Department at Velasco on June 4, 1836 wrote: "I certify that the name of James B. Grice appears upon the muster rolls of Captain Winn's 3rd Company of the Georgia Battalion 1st Regt. Texas Volunteers and that it appears he served from the 23rd December 1835 until the 9th of January 1836, on which day he is marked "deserted", and by proof since received by the Secretary of War he has ordered that he be freed of all odium and shall be entitled to and secure all that might be due him as if the charge had never been entered against him!"
On June 4, 1836 at Velasco he was paid $68.66 for his services by pay master.
