GREEN, JAMES -- Born May 26, 1805 in Kentucky. He arrived in Texas in February, 1834, as is shown in the Headright Certificate for a league and labor of land issued to him January 5, 1838 by the Fayette County Board. With him were his wife and three daughters.

In Service Record No. 135 it is stated that Mr. Green enlisted in the army Feb. 26, 1836 and served until March 17th as a member of Captain Turner Barnes' Company. From March 17th to April 5th he served in Captain Allen Larrison's Company. On April 5th Captain Larrison's Company was combined with Captain Robert J. Calder's Company and as a member of this company Mr. Green participated in the Battle of San Jacinto. He was discharged from the army May 26, 1836. He received Donation Certificate No. 971 for 640 acres of land December 6, 1839 for having participated in the battle. On May 15, 1838 he had been issued Bounty Certificate No. 3370 for 320 acres for his services from February 26 to May 26, 1836.
Mr. Green was married to Nancy Kincheloe. He died Jan. 6, 1885 while a member of the Texas Veterans Association. He is buried in a marked grave in the cemetery in Burnet, Burnet County.
Children of Mr. and Mrs. Green were: (1) Nancy, (2) Hannah, (3) Louis, (4) Madeline, (5) Gus, who had one son Gus, Jr. who lived in Waurika, Oklahoma (6) Narcissus, (7) James, (8) Martha, (9) Benjamin Franklin Pierce Green, had a son J. Willy Green who lived in San Angelo.
