GOODWIN, LEWIS -- The Headright Certificate issued in his name by the Bastrop County Board for a league and labor of land in 1838 shows that Mr. Goodwin arrived in Texas in 1834. He was a member of Captain Jesse Billingsley's "Mina (Bastrop) Volunteers" and on November 9, 1838, was issued Donation Certificate No. 539 for 640 acres of land for having participated in the Battle of San Jacinto. In Service Record No. 417 it is certified that he served in the army from February 29, to June 1, 1836. No Bounty Certificate for land was issued to him for this service.

Part of the city of Austin in situated on land formerly belonging to Mr. Goodwin. On November 18, 1839, he petitioned the Congress of the Republic to pay him for that land.
The Probate Records of Grimes County show that Mr. Goodwin died in what is now Grimes County May 25, 1844, survived by his widow and the following children: Lewis, J.C., Alice G., And John K. Goodwin.
