GOHEEN, MICHAEL R. -- In Book B, page 21 to the list of applicants for land in Austin's Colony in the General Land Office it is shown that when Mr. Goheen applied for land October 31, 1835 he stated that he was 27 years old and had arrived in Texas from Michigan in 1834. He did not secure the land and on January 18, 1838 he was issued a Headright Certificate for one-third of a league by the Board of Land Commissioners for Fayette County.

Captain Goheen commanded a company at the "Storming and Capture of Bexar," December 5 to 10, 1835, and was in the army from Sept. 2, to December 15, 1835. He received Bounty Certificate No. 6034 for 320 acres of land for having served in the army for three months. He was issued Bounty Certificate No. 3388 for 640 acres or land, May 16, 1838, for his services from March 1 to November 20, 1836. He was a member of Captain James Gillaspie's Company at San Jacinto and Donation Certificate No. 665 was issued to him, December 7, 1838 for 640 acres of land for having participated in the battle.
Captain Goheen was living in Grimes County June 6, 1850 when he sold his Headright Certificate to Stacy B. Lewis for $300.00. He died prior to August 30, 1850. He was administrator of the estate of John W. Moody in Harris County. In the Probate Records of the County, Book B, page 332, August 30, 1850, is the following statement: "It having been represented to the Court that M.R. Goheen, late administrator of the estate or John W. Moody is dead."
Captain Goheen was Postmaster at Electra, Texas in April 1836.
