GARDNER, GEORGE WASHINGTON--Was issued a Headright Certificate for one-third of a league of land, January 6, 1838 by the Matagorda County Board. In the certificate it is stated that Mr. Gardner came to Texas in 1834. In Service Record No. 7219 it is certified that Mr. Gardner served in the army from April 9th to July 9th, 1836. He was a member of Captain Moseley Baker's SAN FELIPE COMPANY at San Jacinto but made no claim for the land due him for his services in the army.

Mr. Gardner's home was in Matagorda County in 1840 but he was living in Colorado County, July 25, 1846 when he sold his Headright Certificate to J.W. Miller. In the Probate Minutes of Colorado County, Book C, it is shown that Mr. Gardner died in Colorado County in 1848. James L. Cherry was appointed administrator of his estate. He was County Clerk at the time of his death.
