GAINER, JOHN N.--Came to Texas in January, 1836, as is the Headright Certificate issued in his name, but assigned to Isaac Parker on March 20, 1838, for one-third of a league of land by the Nacogdoches County Board.

The following information contained in Service Record No. 2976, dated May 28, 1837. He was born in York; was five feet, six and one-half inches in height; had brown hair, blue eyes, a Roman nose and fair complexion. By vocation he was a farmer. He enlisted at Nacogdoches January 9, 1836, in Captain Henry Teal's Company of Regulars, but was attached to Isaac N. Moreland's Company of Artillery for the Battle of San Jacinto. When discharged on May 18, 1837, he was a member of Captain Robert Boyd Irvine's Company.
It is probable that shortly after being discharged, he left Texas. He did not apply for the land due him for his services in the army and sold the rights to his headright land before the Headright Certificate was issued.
