BAKER, WALTER ELIAS - The name ELIAS BAKER appears on page 14 of the San Jacinto rolls printed in 1836 and on page 34 of the San Jacinto rolls in the General Land Office. In both instances he is shown as a member of Captain Robert J. Calder’s Company. The name also appears on page 41 of the army rolls in the General Land Office among those of the men who were detailed to guard the camp opposite Harrisburg, April 21, 1836. In Comptrollers Military Service Record No. 8347 it is certified that Mr. Baker was transferred from Captain Calder’s Company to Captain Gibson Kuykendall’s Company at Harrisburg. On November 26, 1838 he was issued Donation Certificate No. 624 for 640 acres of land for having been detailed to guard the camp opposite Harrisburg.

Mr. Baker was issued Bounty Certificate No. 4451 for 320 acres of land November 26, 1838 for having served in the army from March 27 to June 23, 1836. He was issued a headright certificate February 6, 1838 for one-third of a league of land by the Montgomery County Board of Land Commissioners. He was living in Montgomery County November 25, 1843 when he sold Bounty Certificate No. 4451 to George W. Smith.
