FIELDS, HENRY -- Born May 8, 1806 at Fort Mill York District, South Carolina. He came to Texas sometime after May 2, 1835 and before March 2, 1836. In the Headright Certificate issued to him in 1838 by the Board of Land Commissioners of Harrisburg County it is simply stated that he arrived in Texas before March 2, 1836. Had he arrived before May 2, 1835 it would have been so stated in the certificate.

Mr. Fields was a member of Captain Robert J. Calder's Brazoria Company at San Jacinto. He was issued Bounty Certificate No. 1374 for 960 acres of land December 28, 1837 for having served in the army from March 5 to December 27, 1836. On page 61 of the army rolls in the General Land Office he is shown as a member of Captain Thomas Stewart's Company of Matagorda Volunteers at muster July 15, 1836.
In the Pension Papers in the Archives of the Texas State Library at Austin there are petitions from Mr. Fields signed September 3, 1874, in which he applied for a pension and for the donation land due him for having participated in the battle of San Jacinto.
Mr. Fields died October 15, 1890 and is buried in a (marked) (unmarked) grave in the old Magnolia cemetery, near the Magnolia crossing of the Trinity River, in the southwestern part of Anderson County, about twelve miles from Palestine. Mrs. Mary Fields, his widow, at her death was buried beside her husband.
Children of Mr. and Mrs. Fields were James A. and Mary Jane Fields.
