FERRELL, JOHN P. -- Born in Tennessee in 1819, as is shown on page 115 of the army muster rolls in the General Land Office. In the Headright Certificate issued to him June 7, 1838 by the Washington County Board for one-third of a league of land it is stated that he came to Texas in January, 1836. He was a member of Captain Isaac N. Moreland's Company at San Jacinto and on October 3, 1838 he was issued Donation Certificate No. 565 for 640 acres of land for having participated in the battle. In Service Record No. 1156 it is stated that he served in the army from February 27 to June 4, 1836.

Mr. Ferrell was a member of the Texas Veterans Association and was living in McDade, Bastrop county in 1874. He died in Austin County in 1892 and was buried in the Thomas Chochran cemetery near Buckhorn.
