FARWELL, JOSEPH -- Emigrated to Texas in 1835 as is shown in the Headright Certificate issued to him April 12, 1838 for one-third of a league of land by the Matagorda County Board. He was a member of Captain William M. Logan's Company at San Jacinto but did not apply for the land due him for having served in the army. Mr. Farwell evidently moved to Matagorda County after the battle had been fought since Captain Logan's Company was recruited in Liberty Municipality. He was living in Matagorda County July 16, 1839 when he sold his Headright Certificate.

Bounty Certificate No. 1053 for 320 acres of land was issued in Mr. Farwell's name, February 10, 1853 for his services in the army from March 6 to June 6, 1836. The land was surveyed in Runnels County in Mr. Farwell's name but whether or not he had previously assigned the certificate to another has not been ascertained.

The biographies have been scanned from the original typescripts, a process that sometimes allows for mistakes in the new text. Researchers should verify the accuracy of the texts' contents through other sources before quoting in publications. Additional information on the veteran may be available in the Herzstein Library.
