FARIS, HEZEKIAH -- Born in Tennessee in 1798. In Headright Certificate No. 13 issued to him February 2, 1838 for a league and labor of land by the Board of Land Commissioners for Montgomery County it is stated that he came to Texas in 1835.

In Comptroller's Military Service Record No. 6551 (or 6561; manuscript unclear) it is certified that Mr. Faris served in the army from March 1 to May 30, 1836. He was a member of Captain James Gillaspie's Company at San Jacinto and on July 13, 1838 was issued Donation Certificate No. 464 for having participated in the battle.

Mr. Faris was married to Mrs. Matilda (Stephens) Roberts, widow of Thomas Roberts. Mr. Faris died September 1, 1859. Mrs. Faris, born in 1788, died December 5) 1865. Husband and wife are buried in marked graves in the Faris Cemetery near Huntsville, Walker County.

Children of Mr. and Mrs. Faris were Susan and J. M. Faris. Susan was born in Franklin County, Tennessee, August 18, 1829 and on August 12, 1849 was married to Captain James Gillaspie. J. M. Faris was born in Franklin County, Tennessee, October 28, 1832. On February 28, 1860 he was married to Susan Brown of Grimes County.
