EDSON, AMOS B. -- Arrived at Velasco, January 28, 1836, having been recruited in New Orleans for the army of Texas by Captain Amasa Turner. He was a member of Captain Turner's Company at San Jacinto and on May 6, 1851 Donation Certificate No. 283 for 640 acres of land was issued in his name, but delivered to his heirs for having participated in the battle.

At the promotion of Captain Turner to Lieutenant Colonel the men of his Company were transferred to Company A, First Regiment of Regulars Infantry, of which John Smith was elected Captain, August 29, 1836. On Page 170 of the muster rolls in the General Land Office, Mr. Edson is shown as a member of Captain Smith's Company at muster on Galveston December 31, 1836. It is stated on the roll that he enlisted in the army February 13, 1836 for a period of two years. On page 180 of the rolls he is shown as a member of the company February 28, 1837. At that time, however, he is shown as "on command to the Main Army."
Mr. Edson sold his rights to his Headright Certificate August 27, 1837 to John Belden. In the certificate issued by the Harrisburg County Board February 8, 1838 for one-third of a league of land it is stated that Mr. Edson came to Texas in January 1836.
In the Probate Records of Harris County it is stated that Mr. Edson died in Houston in 1837. John F. Johnson was appointed administrator of his estate January 15, 1838.
