In Comptroller's Military Service Record No. 4142 Captain William W. Hill certified that Mr. Dunn served in his company from March 1 to April 9, 1836, when he left it. He stated that Mr. Dunn rejoined his company May 20 and served until May 30 and that he enlisted in Captain John C. Hunt's company and remained in it until July 18, 1836 when he was discharged. For this reason Mr. Dunn's name is dropped by the compiler from Captain Hill's company and retained on Captain Karne's rolls after correcting the spelling of the name.

Several of the men of Captain Hill's company were transferred to Captain Karnes' cavalry company when it was formed and in two instances the names were retained on both rolls, the other being Daniel McKay, as on the other rolls many names on Captain Karnes' were badly misspelled. For instance Dr. Robert K. Gooloe is listed simply as Goodwin, given name and initials omitted. Even Captain Karnes name is spelled Carnes.

Mr. Dunn on February 18, 1842 was issued Donation Certificate No. 1200 for 640 acres of land for having participated in the battle of San Jacinto.

On February 12, 1860 Mr. Dunn received Bounty Certificate No. 348 for 320 acres of land for having served in the army from March 1 to July 18, 1836. This is additional evidence that after Mr. Dunn left Captain Hill's company on April 9th he did not leave the army. He was simply transferred to Captain Karnes' company.

Mr. Dunn came to Texas in 1834, as is stated in the Headright Certificate issued to him October 3, 1839 for two-thirds of a league and one labor of land by the Board of Land Commissioners of Washington County. In the Spanish Archives in the General Land Office it is shown that on December 8, 1834 as a single man ha had received one-fourth of a league of land in Robertson's colony situated in the present county of Milam. Having since married he was entitled to receive additional land.

Mr. Dunn resided for a number of years in Brazos County. His widow, Mrs. Christiana Dunn, received a Veterans' Donation Certificate for 640 acres of land November 15, 1879.
