BAILEY, ALEXANDER -- In applying for land in Austin's Second Colony Mr. Bailey stated that he was born in Ohio in 1797 and came to Texas in 1827, He received one-fourth of a league of land in what is now Washington County, He was a member of Captain William H. Patton's "Columbia Company" and was issued Bounty Certificate No. 4471 for 320 acres of land for serving in the army from March 13 to June 13, 1834. His San Jacinto Donation Certificate No. 649 for 640 acres of land was issued December 4, 1838. On March 3, 1838, he received a Headright Certificate for one-twelfth of a league of land from the Austin County Board, he having previously received one-fourth of a league and was entitled to receive the difference between one-fourth and one-third of a league.

Mr. Bailey died in Austin County in November, 1845, as is shown in "Book E, page 43" of the Probate Records of Austin County.
