CRUNK, NICHOLAS S. -- Born in Williamson, Williamson County, Tennessee in 1812. In Headright Certificate No. 334 issued to him February 8, 1838 for three-fourths of a league of land by the Washington County Board of Land Commissioners it is stated that he came to Texas in December, 1833. Later in the year 1838 he received Headright Certificate No. 346 from the Board for one-fourth of a league and one labor of land.

Mr. Crunk was a member of Captain William W. Hill's Company at San Jacinto and on December 13, 1848, he was issued Donation Certificate No. 139 for 640 acres of land for having participated in the battle. In Comptroller's Military Service Record No. 1240 it is certified that he served in the army from March 1 to May 30, 1836. On a roll of Captain Hill's Company, a photostatic copy of which is in the archives of the State Library, the following information about Mr. Crunk was given: He was five feet, seven inches in height; of fair complexion; had grey eyes and dark brown hair. He was enlisted at the home of Asa Mitchell by Captain Joseph P. Lynch.
Mr. Crunk married to Emaline Rice, daughter of Laban Rice. Mr. Crunk died in Burleson County March 8, 1852. Mrs. Crunk was married to Edmund Ridgeway in 1855. Children of Mr. and Mrs. Crunk were John C., who married Sallie A. Johnston; Levine, who married R. G. Broadus of Caldwell, Texas; Ophelia, who married B. J. Evans of Alvin, Texas; Richard; and Virginia Crunk, who married James Shaffer.
