ATKINSON, MILTON B. -- Arrived in Texas in 1835. In the Headright Certificate issued to him February 1, 1838, for one-third of a league of land by the Brazoria County Board of Land Commissioners it is simply stated that he came to Texas before March 2, 1836. Had he arrived before May 2, 1835, it would have been so stated in the certificate. Since he received Donation Certificate No. 426 for 640 acres of land March 10, 1852, for having participated in the Storming and Capture of Bexar, December 5 to 10, 1835, it is evident that he arrived in Texas in 1835, after May 2.

Mr. Atkinson was a member of Captain William H. Patton's Columbia Company at San Jacinto. He was entitled to receive but one Donation Certificate and, as has been stated, he applied for one for having participated in the Storming of Bexar. On February 5, 1852, he was issued Bounty Certificate No. 1026 for 640 acres of land for having served in the army from March 13 to October 7, 1836. In Comptroller's Military Service Record No. 1011 it is stated that he also served from October 7, 1836, to January 13, 1837.
Mr. Atkinson was living in Jefferson County March 10, 1852, when he sold his Donation Certificate to Samuel A. Maverick of San Antonio. He owned lot 4 in Block 2 in the old town of Jefferson, Jefferson County, and also owned lots in the town of Sabine Pass.
