On July 4, 1835 he had received title to one league of land in Vehlein's Colony situated in the present county of Walker.

Mr. Cox was a member of Captain William Ware's Company and on November 21, 1838 was issued Donation Certificate No. 613 for 640 acres of land for having participated in the Battle of San Jacinto. On November 24, 1838 he received Bounty Certificate No. 4434 for 320 acres of land for having served in the army from March 12 to June 24, 1836.

Mr. Cox and Jonathan H. Collard appraised the value of the property captured from the Mexicans at San Jacinto. Mr. Collard did not participate in the engagement but arrived at the battlefield on the following day.
