In the Headright Certificate issued to Thomas Cooke, February 2, 1838 for one-third of a league of land by the Montgomery County Board it is stated that he arrived in Texas April 3, 1835. Mr. Cooke died March 4, 1835 in Randolph, Tennessee. His widow returned to North Carolina. The children had emigrated to Texas settled in what is now Montgomery County. At the time the revolution began in Texas, Henry L. and William G. Cooke had returned to Tennessee to settle the estate of their father.
