CONNELL, SAMPSON -- In the Headright Certificate issued to him by the Bastrop County Board for a league and labor of land January 19, 1838, it is stated that he arrived in Texas in 1834.

Mr. Connell was a member of Captain Jesse Billingsley's Company of "Mina Volunteers" at San Jacinto and on September 14, 1838 was issued Donation Certificate No. 543 for 640 acres of land for having participated in the battle. His heirs were issued bounty Certificate No. 763, on January 4, 1851 for 320 acres of land due him for having served in the army for three months, period of enlistment not shown. The certificate had been assigned to J. F. Brockenbough.
Mr. Connell was married to Sarah J. The probate records of Washington County show that Mr. Connell died in 1847. Sampson Connell, Jr. was appointed administrator of his estate March 29, 1847.
Mrs. Sarah J. Connell was issued a Veterans Donation for 1280 acres of land, July 14, 1881. She was living in Williamson County July 22, 1881 when she sold the certificate to John M. Swisher for $350.00
