COFFMAN, ELKIN G. -- Came to Texas sometime between May 2, 1835 and March 2, 1836. In the Headright Certificate issued to him March 1, 1838 for one-third of a league of land by the Board of Land Commissioners for Brazoria County it is simply stated that he arrived in Texas prior to March 2, 1836. But had he arrived prior to May 2, 1835 it would have been so stated in the certificate.

In Comptroller's Military Service Record No. 358 it is certified that Mr. Coffman served in the army from March 18 to September 18, 1836. For this service he was entitled to receive 64O acres of bounty land but the records in the General Land Office do not show that he applied for it. He was first Corporal in Captain Thomas H. McIntire's Company at San Jacinto and on July 27, 1841 he received Donation Certificate No. 1157 for 640 acres of land for having participated in the battle. On page 233 of the army rolls in the Land Office it is stated that sometime after the battle of San Jacinto Mr. Coffman enlisted in Captain William H. Patton's Company.
The Probate Records of Bastrop County show that Mr. Coffman died in 1847. R. H. Grimes was appointed administrator of his estate January 30, 1849.
