COCHRAN, JEREMIAH D. -- Name not shown on the San Jacinto rolls printed in 1836. In the Headright Certificate issued to him January 12, 1838 for one-third of a league of land by the Austin County Board it is stated that he came to Texas in 1835. Comptroller's Military Service Record No. 6544, signed by Captain Moseley Baker and countersigned by Lieutenant Colonel Alexander Somervell at Victoria, May 29th, 1836 reads:

"I certify that J. D. Cochrane was enrolled in the service of Texas and commenced the March as a member of my company on the 29th day of February last, that he fought bravely in the battle of the 21st April, and having served out the full term of three months I grant him an honorable discharge."
On February 1, 1838 Mr. Cochran received Bounty Certificate No. 2229 for 320 acres of land for having served in the army for a period of three months. On November 14, 1840 he was issued Donation Certificate No. 1083 for 640 acres of land for having participated in the battle of San Jacinto.
The Probate Records of Washington County show that Mr. Cochran died in the then Washington County in 1844. Thomas Cochran was appointed administrator of his estate October 20, 1844.
Mr. Cochran was born in New Hampshire. His brother James Cochran came to Texas in 1825 and settled at San Felipe de Austin where he engaged in merchandising. His store went up in flames when San Felipe was burned by Captain Moseley Baker in 1836. In 1835 Mr. James Cochran returned to New Hampshire for his family and when he came back to Texas his brothers Jeremiah, Thomas and Robert, and their sister Lucy A. Cochran accompanied them. Robert Cochran fell at the Alamo.
