CLEMONS, WILLIAM H. -- Name omitted from the San Jacinto rolls printed in 1836. He was born in Davidson County, Tennessee in 1812. In Headright Certificate No. ____ issued to him February 4, 1830 for one-third of a league of land by the Milam County Board of Land Commissioners it is stated that he cane to Texas in 1835.

In Comptroller's Military Service Record No. 1025 Captain William H. Smith certified that Mr. Clemens was a member of his company at San Jacinto. On June 30, 1838 Mr. Clemens received Donation Certificate No. 345 for 640 acres of land for having participated in the battle. On June 19, 1838 he was issued Bounty Certificate No. 3893 for 320 acres of land for having served in the army from April 10 to May 10, 1836.
Several affidavits signed by Mr. Clemens are found in the Court of Claims file in the General Land Office. In the file of James D. Jennings, Mr. Clemons stated that he (Clemons) was born in Davidson County, Tennessee in 1812. In the file on David Deadrick, there is an affidavit signed by Mr. Clemens at his home in Nashville, Tennessee, October 30, 1858 in which he stated that he emigrated to Texas in November, 1835.
A letter from the Health Department, City of Nashville, to the compiler dated April 6, 1934, stated that if Mr. Clemens died in Nashville, it was before the year 1874, when the Health Records were first started.
