The names of the members of the Texas Veterans Association in 1874 were printed in D. W. C. Baker's A Texas Scrap Book. On page 592 Mr. Callicoatte is shown as having been born in North Carolina in about 1815. He was a member of Captain John W. Peacock's Company in 1835 and on November 9, 1849, was issued Donation Certificate No. 183 for 640 acres of land for having participated in the storming and capture of Bexar, December 5 to 10, 1835. He was a member of Captain Thomas H. McIntire's Company at San Jacinto. He did not apply for the land due him for having served in the army immediately prior to and after the Battle of San Jacinto and was not entitled to receive two Donation Certificates. His name appears on page 68 army rolls in the General Land Office as having joined the army at Bexar, November 26, 1835 and as having enlisted in Captain John Chenoweth's Company January 1, 1836. His name appears on the Soldier's Memorial signed at Refugio on about February 4, 1836.

Mr. Callicoatte was Tax Assessor and Collector of Brazos County in 1846. He was living at or near Sulphur Springs, Hopkins County, on June 15, 1874, when he applied for a pension. In his petition, found in the Pension Papers, Archives of the Texas State Library, he stated that he "volunteered in Peacock's Company A. D. 1835, that he served in the battles of San Antonio and San Jacinto" and that when discharged he was a member of Captain Henry W. Karnes' Company. General Walter P. Lane in an affidavit said that he was well acquainted with Mr. Callicoatte and knew that he participated in the Battle of San Jacinto.
