At the outbreak of the campaign in 1836 Mr. Whitlock joined Captain Captain William M. Logan’s company. His name is not on eht San Jacinto rolls printed in 1836 or on the San Jacinto rolls in the General Land Office. On page 43 of the army rolls he is listed as one of the men of Captain Logan’s company who were left at the camp near Harrisburg. On May 23, 1838 he was issued Donation Certificate No. 3534 for 320 acres of land for having served in the army from March 6 to June 6, 1836. He was issued Donation Certificate No. 524 for 640 acres of land October 5, 1853 for having been detailed to guard the baggage at the camp opposite Harrisburg, April 21, 1836.

At the outbreak of the War between the States Mr. Whitlock entered the Confederate Army. After the war he settled in West Texas when he remained for about thirty years before removing back to Devers, Liberty County.

Mr. Whitlock died September 15, 1894. The following account of his death was published in a paper:

“ROBERT WHITLOCK—Sinton, Texas, September 16.—Robert Whitlock, a veteran of the war of 1836, which resulted in the independence of Texas, and a hero of the battle of San Jacinto, died at the residence of his neice, Mrs. D. C. Rachel. He was 84 years old. This leaves but eighteen survivors of that memorable battle.”

Mr. Whitlock was married to Fredonia Whaley and two children were born of the union, Mary Frances and William Walter Whitlock. After his wife’s death Mr. Whitlock again married but the name of his second wife is unknown to the compiler. There were no children of this union.
