Mr. Vardeman’s name is not on the San Jacinto rolls printed in 1836 or on the San Jacinto rolls in the General Land Office. In 1852 Mr. Vardeman petitioned the Legislature for the land due him for his services in the army of Texas in 1836. In the evidence submitted there was a statement signed by Captain Hayden Arnold at Nacogdoches September 21, 1838, and now in the Memorials and Petitions in the Archives of the Texas State Library, Austin, in which he said that Mr. Vardeman, to the best of his recollection, had served in the army from January 7 to June 6, 1836. He stated that he had been a member of Captain Benjamin F. Bryant’s company on April 21, 1836 but was on that date on detached service at Harrisburg. After the battle he joined Captain Arnold’s company and was discharged from it at La Babia.

Mr. Vardeman’s name appears on page ____ of the army rolls in the Land Office as a member of Captain Arnold’s company at muster _______ 1836.

On January 6, 1852 Mr. Vardeman was issued Donation Certificate No. 409 for 640 acres of land for having participated in the battle of San Jacinto. He was living in Rusk County August 16, 1852 when he sold the certificate to James W. Flanagan.

Mr. Vardeman died before July 3, 1854. In the Probate Records of Rusk County, Book E, page 123, it is stated that Mrs. Rachel Vardeman, widow of Henry Vardeman, died July 3, 1854 survived by the following children: Eley Vardeman Tatum, Sarah Vardeman Tatum and Louisa Vardeman Walker.
