TOWNSEND, MOSES - Appeared before the Board of Land Commissioners at Columbia, Colorado County, February 3, 1838 and applied for a headright certificate for one-third of a league of land which was granted. He proved by Stephen Townsend and David Wade that he had arrived in Texas prior to the second day of May, 1835.

Mr. Townsend’s name appears on the army rolls in the General Land Office as one of the men of Captain Gibson Kuykendall's company who were detailed to guard the baggage at the camp opposite Harrisburg, April 21, 1836. On January 4, 1838 he was issued Bounty Certificate No. 1577 for 320 acres of land for having served in the army from April 1 to July 1, 1836.
On July 28, 1851 Mr. Townsend received Donation Certificate No. 353 for 640 acres of land. It is not stated in the certificate the service performed for hwich it was issued. At Austin, Texas February 28, 1857 Mr. Townsend assigned the certificate to James C. Gaither.
Mrs. Mary Ann M. Townsend, widow of Moses Townsend, was living in Caldwell County, October 28, 1881 when she received a Veterans Donation Certificate for 1280 acres of land.
