SHARP, JOHN - His name appears on page 41, army rolls in the General Land Office as a member of Captain Gibson Kuykendall’s Company who was detailed to guard the baggage at Harrisburg, April 21, 1836.

The records of the Texas Veterans Association of which Mr. Sharp was a member, show that he was born in North Carolina in about 1813. In Headright Certificate No. 388 issued to him by the Washington County Board, March 2, 1838 for one-league and one labor of land it is stated that he came to Texas in 1833. He was living in Mialm Country in 1845 when he sold the certificate to David Ayers. He could not write.

The Texas Veterans Association records show that Mr. Sharp claimed to have participated in the Siege of Bexar in 1835.

Mr. Sharp was issued Donation Certificate No. 509 for 640 acres of land August 14, 1838 for having detailed to guard the baggage at Harrisburg on April 21, 1836. Bounty Certificate No. 745 for 320 acres of land was issued in Mr. Sharp’s name December 13, 1850 for having served in the army of Texas for a period of three months. The certificate had been assigned to Charles B. Stewart.

Mr. Sharp was living at, or near, Caldwell, Burleson County, in 1883.

He was married to Minerva Miller February 5, 1838.
