RICKS, GEORGE WASHINGTON - Born in 1814. He came to Texas in 1835, as is stated in the headright certificate for one-third of a league of land issued to him February 1, 1838 by the Bastrop County Board of Land Commissioners. He was a member of Captain Jesse Billingsley’s Company in 1836 but was detailed to guard the baggage at Harrisburg, April 21, 1836, as a member of Captain Gibson Kuykendall’s Company. He was issued Donation Certificate No. 984 for 640 acres of land, December 28, 1839 for having been detailed to guard the baggage. He was issued Bounty Certificate No. 827 for 320 acres of land December 8, 1837 for having served in the army from February 20 to June 1, 1836. He was issued Bounty Certificate No. 826 for 320 acres, December 8, 1837 for his services from July 1 to October 31, 1836.
