RANKIN, DAVID - Came to Texas in the winter of 1834, as is shown in Headright Certificate No. 221 issued to him March 2, 1838 for one-third of a league of land by the Board of Land Commissioners for Liberty County. He was probably a member of Captain William M. Logan’s Company. On December 14, 1838 he was issued Donation Certificate No. 696 for 640 acres of land for having been detailed to guard the baggage at the camp opposite Harrisburg, April 21, 1836. The land was surveyed in what is now Karner County in 1838. The headright land was surveyed in Liberty County.
