Mr. Pleasants enlisted in the army in 1835 and served during the siege of Bexar. He re-entered March 25, 1836, in Captain William H. Patton’s company and served until May 7 when he was furloughed until he could recover his health. He was issued Donation Certificate No. 142 for 640 acres of land for having been detailed to remain at the camp near Harrisburg on April 21st. He was made a deputy under John V. Morton, first sheriff of Fort Bend County, in 1837.

Mr. Pleasants was a member of the Texas Veterans Association and died at Blanco, Texas, January 7, 1891, and was buried there. On June 24, 1842 he had been married to Jane Ann Brush, who was born in New York, November 5, 1824. She and her mother, who was a widow, went to Fort Bend county on a visit to her sister, also a Mrs. Brush, they having married brothers. Being pleased with the country they made it their permanent home.

Mrs. Pleasants died at Blanco, November 1, 1896, while on a visit to her daughter, Mrs. West. Her remains were shipped to Richmond, Texas and placed by those of her husband, his having been previously exhumed and reinterred in the Masonic cemetery.

Children of Mr. and Mrs. Pleasants were (1) Frances Cornelia, (2) Mary C., (3) Edward R., (4) Jesse G., (5) Frank P., (6) Guy M. Bryan and (7) Emma B. Pleasants.

(1) Frances Cornelia Pleasants was married to Frank T. Lafayette Bell. Mrs. Bell died in Houston May 21, 1939, survived by his daughter Mrs. Willie B. Ransom of 2508 Genesee Street, Houston. She was also survived by a sister Mrs. Emma West, San Antonio and by ten grand-children and ten great grandchildren.

(2) Mary O. Pleasants was married to William B. Robinson in 1865.

(3) Edward R. Pleasants was married to Nettie Bell in 1869.

(4) Jesse G. Pleasants was married to Ettie Moore in 1875. They had one son, Robert.

(5) Frank P. Pleasants died young.

(6) Guy M. Bryan Pleasants died at the age of nine years.

(7) Emma B. Pleasants was born to John West in 1883. In 1939 Mrs. West was living in San Antonio.

PLEASANTS, GEORGE WASHINGTON – Born in Raleigh, North Carolina, March 30, 1809 and emigrated to Texas in April, 1834. He settled at Columbia where he remained until 1833. Two of his sisters succumbed to Cholera that year, each leaving children whom Mr. Pleasants reared.

A daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Pleasants, Mrs. Nana Bell, was living in Richmond in 1932.
