Harrisburg
PETTUS, WILLIAM (“BUCK”) - One of the “Old Three Hundred” of Austin’s colonists. He was married to Elizabeth Patrick. He was issued title to two leagues and one labor of land situated in the present counties of Wharton, Fort Bend and Waller Countries, July 10, 1824.
The General Council of the Provisional Government of November 15, 1835 ordered Thomas Gay, George M. Patrick and William Pettus to carry a dispatch to the army before Bexar. Gay declined to make the trip.
In Service Record No. 4520 Captain Moseley Baker certified that Mr. Pettus entered the service of Texas March 1, 1836 and was on detached service until a few days previous to the battle of San Jacinto, and was particularly detailed by Captain Baker as one of the guards for the camp near Harrisburg. He was discharged May 30, 1836.
He was issued Donation Certificate No. 397 for 640 acres of land June 31, 1838 for having been detailed to guard the baggage at the Harrisburg camp.
Mr. Pettus was living in San Felipe in 1828.
