MORRIS, JAMES H. - Came to Texas in 1835, as is stated in Headright Certificate No. 60 issued to him January 6, 1838 for one-third of a league of land by the Board of Land Commissioners for Matagorda County. He was living in Bexar county May 20, 1839 when he sold the certificate to William F. York for $225.

On page 41 of the army rolls in the General Land Office Mr. Morris is shown as one of Captain Gibson Kuykendall’s company who were detailed to guard the baggage at the camp opposite Harrisburg April 21, 1836. Apparently he did not apply for a donation certificate. He was issued Bounty Certificate No. 9120 for 640 acres of land May 13, 1839 for having served in the army from May 29 to November 29, 1836. The certificate had been assigned to Willard D. Lee.
