BROOKS, THOMAS D. -- It has not been determined where Mr. Brooks was born or when he came to Texas. In the Headright Certificate issued to him February 20, 1838 for a league and labor of land by the Nacogdoches County Board, it is simply stated that he arrived prior to May 2, 1835.

On February 16, 1860 Mr. Brooks was issued Bounty Certificate No. 185 for 320 acres of land for having served in the army from March 1 to May 30, 1836. He was a member of Captain Hayden's Nacogdoches Company at San Jacinto and on January 29, 1839 he received Donation Certificate No. 797 for 640 acres of land for having participated in the battle. The land was surveyed in Upshur County and Mr. Brooks was living in that county April 13, 1858. According to Baker's Scrap Book, he died in Hopkins County May 23, 1870.
Mr. Brooks was on September 4, 1837 married to Mary Brewer, daughter of Henry and Susannah Brewer, and sister of Henry M. Brewer who participated in the battle of San Jacinto. Miss Brewer was born April 23, 1814. She died ______________
Children of Mr. and Mrs. Brooks were Baltimore R., Susannah and Henry W. Brooks.
