He was among those who remained at the camp opposite Harrisburg who received donation certificates for having fought in the Battle of San Jacinto. His name is not on the official San Jacinto rolls printed in 1836 or on the San Jacinto rolls in the General Land Office yet on November 17, 1838, he was issued Donation Certificate No. 608 for 640 acres of land for having participated in the battle.
A letter from W. P. Zuber, published in the Texas Almanac of 1860 gave the names of the men he knew who remained in camp with him. He and Mr. McMillan were members of Captain James Gillaspie’s Company and Mr. Zuber said that McMillan was among the sick at the camp.
In Comptroller’s Military Service Record No. 2466 it is stated that Mr. McMillan served in the companies of Captains Gafford, Lynch, Gillaspie and B. J. Ijams from March 9 to June 8, 1836. He was issued Bounty Certificate No. 1120 for 320 acres of land, July 2, 1852 for having served in the army from October 1, 1835 to January 1, 1836. He was living in Robertson County August 3, 1852 when he sold the certificate to James McGuire for $60.00. He received Bounty Certificate No. _____, February 27, 1838 for 640 acres of land for his services from March 9 to November 25, 1836.
Mr. McMillan probably died in Brazos County in 1872 and is probably buried in the cemetery at Owensville.
