MATHER, ELISHA - Shown on page 233 of the army rolls in the General Land Office as a member of Captain William Patton’s Brazoria company. He is listed on page 227 as E. Manhue on page 41 as L. Manhue, a member of Captain Gibson Kuykendall’s company who was detailed to guard the baggage on April 21, 1836.

Mr. Mather died in the winter of 1836-37. On March 1, 1838 Headright Certificate No. 404 for one league and one labor of land was issued to John W. Cloud, administrator of the estate of Elisha Mather, deceased, by the Board of Land Commissioners for Brazoria County. In the certificate it is stated that Mr. Mather came to Texas previous to May 2, 1835.
Donation Certificate No. 1213 for 640 acres of land was issued in the name of Elisha Mather, August 30, 1845, due him for “having been on detached service at Harrisburg April 21, 1836 by order of the Secretary of War.” Bounty Certificate No. 1067 for 320 acres of land was issued in Mr. Mather’s name March 16, 1852, due him for having served in the army from March 13, to June 13, 1836.
Mr. Mather was married to Ann Johnson who was a sister of William Henry H. Johnson and Rebecca Johnson. Rebecca was the second wife of Rev. John Wirt Cloud, Sr.
After the death of her husband Mrs. Mather was married to Asa Brigham, one of the signers of the Texas Declaration of Independence.
