Altho Mr. Manning’s name is not on the San Jacinto rolls printed in 1836 and is on the Harrisburg rolls he was on November 30, 1852 issued Donation Certificate No. 462 for 640 acres of land for having participated in the battle of San Jacinto. By the year 1852 the terms “having participated in the battle of San Jacinto” and having been detailed to guard the baggage at the camp opposite Harrisburg” had become synonymous.

In Headright Certificate No. 17 issued January 6, 1838 forone-twelfth of a league of land to Mr. Manning by the Board of Land Commissioners for Fayette County it is stated that he came to Texas in January, 1835. He was issued a headright certificate for two-thirds of one league and one labor of land in compliance with an Act of the Legislature approved in 1849.

In the Comptroller’s Military Service the following information concerning Mr. Manning is found: He was born in Pembroke County, New Hampshire in 1812; was five feet, ten inches in height, light complexion, blue eyes and light hair. By occupation he was a turner. He was a member of Captain H. C. D. Earl’s Company, First Regiment of Kentucky Volunteers, serving from June 1 to November 30, 1836 when he was discharged at Camp Johnson. He enlisted in Captain Jerome B. Robertson’s Company D., 1st Regiment Permanent Volunteers December 1, 1836 for a period of six months but was discharged in consequence of sickness February 28, 1837.

He was issued Bounty Certificate No. 1821 January 13, 1838 for 640 acres of land for serving in the army from June 1 to November 1, 1836. The land was surveyed in Hamilton Co.

Mr. Manning was living in Hamilton County March 4, 1879 when he sold land.

The Marriage Records of Fayette County show that Mr. Manning was married to Elizabeth Fitzgerald in Fayette County, January 9, 1839.
