LYNCH, JOSEPH PENN - In Headright Certificate No. 45 issued to Captain Lynch January 11, 1838 for a league and labor of land by the Washington County Board of Land Commissioner’s it is simply stated that he came to Texas prior to May 2, 1835 and had married after March 2, 1836. He served from July 9 to August 31, 1835 as a member of Captain Philip Coe’s Company of Rangers. He was issued Donation Certificate No. 195 for 640 acres of land May 23, 1838 for having participated in the Storming and Capture of Bexar, December 5 to 10, 1835. On May 10, 1838 he received Bounty Certificate No. 3297 for 320 acres for having served in the army from October 1 to December 22, 1835. On January 11, 1838 he had been issued Bounty Certificate No. 1751 for 320 acres of land for his services from March 1 to May 30, 1836. He received Bounty No. 1752 January 20, 1838 for his services from June 30 to September 13, 1836.

Captain Lynch recruited a company in Washington Municipality in March, 1836. Most of his men participated in the Battle of San Jacinto as members of Captain William W. Hill’s Company, but Captain Lynch, probably on account of his illness was among those detailed to remain at the camp opposite Harrisburg on April 21, 1836. After the battle he commanded a company in the First Regiment of Texas Volunteers.
Captain Lynch was married to Mary Miller. Captain Lynch was living in Limestone County May 24, 1857. (See the testimony of William Townsend, Court of Claims file, General Land Office, Austin.)
Mrs. Lynch Davidson, 1010 Hadley Street, Houston, is a daughter of William Neal and Annie E. (Lynch) Calvit.
