KUYKENDALL, THORNTON S. - In Headright Certificate No. 51 issued to him January 17, 1838 for one-third of a league of land by the Board of Land Commissioners for Austin County it is stated that Mr. Kuykendall came to Texas in 1825. He was a member of Captain Gibson Kuykendall’s company and on August 31, 1838 he was issued Donation Certificate No. 486 for 640 acres of land for having been detailed to guard the baggage at the camp opposite Harrisburg April 21, 1836. The land was surveyed in Freestone County. On July 30, 1838 he was issued Bounty Certificate No. 3971 for 320 acres of land for his services in the army from March 1 to May 30, 1836.
