HEAD, WILEY M. - Arrived in Texas before May 2, 1835, as is stated in the headright certificate issued to him January 25, 1838 for one-third of a league of land by the Board of Land Commissioners for Brazoria County. He was a second Sergeant of Captain Peyton B. Splane’s Company and on June 27, 1838 he was issued Donation Certificate No. 376 for 640 acres of land for having been detailed to guard the baggage at the camp opposite Harrisburg. On April 10, 1838 he received Bounty Certificate No. 2829 for 320 acres of land for his services in the army from March 6 to June 6, 1836. In Comptroller’s Military Service Record No. 916 it is certified that when Mr. Head was discharged he was a member of Captain Peter B. Dexter’s company.
