HALLMARK, ALFRED M. - Due to the fact that Mr. Hallmark was issued a donation Certificate for 640 acres of land for having participated in the battle of San Jacinto the compiler had his name placed on the bronze plaque in the San Jacinto Monument on which are listed the names of the men who fought at San Jacinto. The compiler is now (March 26, 1941) convinced that Mr. Hallmark was among those detailed to guard the baggage at the camp opposite Harrisburg March 21, 1836. His name is not on the San Jacinto rolls printed in 1836 or the San Jacinto rolls in the General Land Office but on December 30, 1840 he was issued Donation Certificate No. 1105 for 640 acres of land for having participated in the battle. At that time, however, it was not unusual for one who had remained at the Harrisburg camp to receive a donation certificate for having participated in the battle of San Jacinto.

Mr. Hallmark was born in Alabama in 1817. He came to Texas in 1834, as is stated in Headright Certificate No. 1 issued to him February 5, 1838 for one-third of a league of land by the Board of Land Commissioners for Houston County. He was a member of Captain Hayden Arnold’s company and was on June 13, 1851 issued Bounty Certificate No. 1654 for 320 acres of land for having served in the army from March 7 to June 5, 1836.
Mr. William P. Zuber was left at the camp opposite Harrisburg on April 21, 1836 and in writing for the Texas Almanac in 1860 he states that Mr. Hallmark was also among those who remained at the camp.
Mr. Hallmark died in Crockett, Houston County, April 16, 1880, while a member of the Texas Veterans Association.
Mr. F. Hallmark, a descendant of Alfred M. Hallmark, was residing in Crockett, Texas in 1937.
