FRANCIS, MILLER - Shown in the records of the Texas Veterans Association, of which he was a member, as having been born in Tennessee in 1810. In an unnumbered headright certificate issued to him March 15, 1838 for one-third of a league of land by the Board of Land Commissioners for Austin County it is stated that he came to Texas in 1834. He is shown on page 41 of the army rolls in the General Land Office as First Lieutenant of Captain Gibson Kuykendall’s company and as having been detailed to guard the baggage at the camp opposite Harrisburg, April 21, 1836. Yet on December 18, 1845 he was issued Donation Certificate No.1223 for 640 acres of land for having participated in the battle of San Jacinto. He was elected First Lieutenant April 8, 1836. He enlisted July 1, 1836 as Second Lieutenant of Captain Benjamin F. Reaville’s Company.

Mr. Francis died at Buckhorn, Austin County, March 26, 1882.
