The Albert and Ethel Herzstein Library

The Albert and Ethel Herzstein Library boasts more rare books per square foot than the Smithsonian Museum in Washington D.C., and its books, maps, manuscripts and collections are available for your next research project.

The library’s collections are non-circulating, and may only be used in the library. We welcome you to make an appointment to come visit.

Information on books, serials, manuscripts, photographs, maps, and other material owned by the Herzstein Library can be searched in our online catalog. Please don’t hesitate to ask for help finding materials.

Terms of Use

  • The Albert and Ethel Herzstein Library shall not limit access to materials by patrons based on race, color, disability, religion, sex, sexual orientation, or national origin. The library shall not limit access based on the perceived scholarly merit or appropriateness of a researcher’s work, and shall not reserve materials exclusively to the use of individual researchers.
  • Published and unpublished materials, audio tapes and video tapes held for purposes of historical research may be confidential, and the library reserves the right to restrict access to materials if required to protect the privacy of the creators, or if stipulated by donors of the materials, or if mandated by state or federal law. In addition, access to items will not be allowed if handling would impair the physical or intellectual integrity and safety of the material.
  • It is the researcher’s responsibility to conform to all legal provisions such as literary right and copyright affecting the materials used. The Museum will not be responsible for the researcher’s infringement.
